1. What to learn today
Greek has verbs that look passive or mediopassive. At level A2 the important thing is to understand and use the most common forms: λέγεται, βρίσκεται, γίνεται, ονομάζεται, χρησιμοποιείται, χρειάζομαι.
Key idea: such verbs often end in -μαι, -σαι, -ται
and don't always translate as an English passive. Sometimes it's more natural to say them with an active phrase in English.

2. How the endings work
Many mediopassive verbs in the present tense have these endings:

Common mistake: don't say εγώ χρειάζω to mean "I need".
Correct: εγώ χρειάζομαι.
3. λέγεται — "is called"
λέγεται is often used when you ask the name of an object, a place or a word.

Note: λέγεται is more colloquial and more common than ονομάζεται.
4. ονομάζεται — "is called" (formally)
ονομάζεται also means "is called", but it sounds more formal. You'll often meet it in descriptions of places, documents, organisations and routes.

5. βρίσκεται — "is located"
βρίσκεται is used when we say where a place, a building or an object is.

Useful words for location: κοντά σε — near, απέναντι από — opposite, δίπλα σε — next to, στο κέντρο — in the centre, στην περιοχή — in the area.
Common mistake: after κοντά you usually need the preposition σε.
Correct: κοντά στο λιμάνι — near the harbour.
6. γίνεται — "happens", "becomes", "is possible"
γίνεται is a very important verb. It has several meanings.

7. χρησιμοποιείται — "is used"
χρησιμοποιείται helps you talk about things, languages, cards, apps and documents.

Notice the number: χρησιμοποιείται — is used, singular; χρησιμοποιούνται — are used, plural.
Στην Κύπρο χρησιμοποιούνται δύο γλώσσες πολύ συχνά: τα ελληνικά και τα αγγλικά.
In Cyprus two languages are used very often: Greek and English.
8. χρειάζομαι — "I need"
χρειάζομαι is mediopassive in form, but its meaning is very practical: "I need", "I require".

Note: in Greek the object usually comes right after χρειάζομαι:
